One Minute Review - "Lion King" in 3D

This weekend’s top box office hit was Disney’s “The Lion King” in 3D which opened September 16. Not only is this 1994 classic introduced to a new audience of wide-eyed youth, the popular 3D twist is a cool marketing idea which grabs the older crowd, too.

I’m not sure that the 3D added a great deal to the viewing experience, but it didn’t hurt it either. There are no projectiles that make you jump in your seat. It is simply the same enjoyable movie. The colors are still rich, the animated characters are endearing and the songs will remain in your head for days afterwards. The story appeals to all ages - the joy of birth, the pain of death, jealousy, friendship and battle. The “circle of life’ is explained as only Disney can.

The journey of the young cub, Simba to King of his pride remains compelling and worth seeing again, and again. However, "The Lion King" is only available in theaters for two weeks, so hurry! - Kathy Williamson
